Yokohama and Team ADVAN x HRT got their first taste of a wet and dry Nürburgring Nordschleife during the first qualifying session of the 52nd edition of the Nürburgring 24 hours. Despite the infamous Eifelwetter expected to play a major role in this year’s race with more rain predicted for the rest of the weekend, tens of thousands of fans already cheered on their idols in the “Green Hell” during the first practice session on Thursday afternoon whilst preparing for their own racing party during the race.

With a spot in the Top Qualifying 2 session already secured, the #6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Dennis Fetzer, Hubert Haupt, Ralf Aron and Salman Owega took it easy during the first session, making full use of the latest generation of Yokohama Advan slicks as well as rain tires, finishing the session in 25th position overall and 5th in the SP9 Pro-Am category, mastering a heavy rain shower at the end of the session.

In the second session in the evening, Team ADVAN x HRT faced the night session with another flawless race preparation in mind. This plan was cut short when Salman Owega had contact with the barriers in the Metzgesfeld section. The left-hander caught out numerous vehicles during the two sessions on Thursday with a small stream of water crossing the track just in the apex of the corner.

Team ADVAN x HRT will use the night and all the expertise of Haupt Racing Team to rebuild the #6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 as the team aims to continue its preparation for the race in the final qualifying session in early Friday afternoon.

Driver’s Voice

Hubert Haupt [Team ADVAN×HRT]

“The good thing is that we are qualified for Top Qualifying 2. At the end of the first session it started to rain very heavily. If that was the race, a full course Code 60 or stoppage of the race would be necessary. If the race goes the way the first session did, you always have to have be on the right tires at the right time. Thankfully Yokohama is providing us with excellent rubber for all weather conditions. The incident in the evening was unfortunate but things like that can happen. We will repair the car, recover and come back stronger tomorrow. Our goal is to win the SP9 Pro-Am”
