[Vol.7] Sustainable Materials Racing Tires Development Report / Mobility Resort Motegi

On November 21 and 22, after the end of the 2022 Super Formula season, Yokohama Tires conducted further development tire tests of racing tires made from renewable raw materials was conducted at Mobility Resort Motegi. These tests at Mobility Resort Motegi mark the final test which concludes the Super Formula NEXT 50 – tire development for 2022.

■The first test day was a water spray WET test held under artificially man made wet track conditions in order to determine the specifications for next season’s WET tires. And in order to further optimize the test tires used in the July test at Fuji Speedway.

■The three tire specifications were fully compared with the 2022 Super Formula regular tires and evaluated both in the short milage and long runs. In addition, a new WET pattern was tested at the same time, as an advanced development product to be adopted from 2024 and beyond.

■On the second day, while the main focus was on vehicle testing of new bodywork, Yokohama Tires was able to also evaluate advanced development products for further increasing the ratio of renewable raw materials in DRY tire specs.

Based on the results of these tests, Yokohama Tires will further refine the specifications of the 2023 WET tires and continue development for further progress in 2024 and beyond.
