[Vol.3] Sustainable Materials Racing Tires Development Report / Autopolis

Race tire development tests made from renewable raw materials were conducted at Autopolis International Racing Course on 18 and 19 May, a couple of days ahead of the Super Formula Championship Rd. 4.

■The purpose of these tire tests at Autopolis was to evaluate the tire structure and compound combination which had already been well received in the previous Fuji and Suzuka tests. Here at Autopolis, a circuit with again very distinctive track characteristics, the tests were carried out to evaluate the new compounds which have been further developed to address the issues identified in previous tests.

■The tests were conducted using the same construction for all the test tires, and focusing on the specification that had received the best evaluation in the tests so far.

■As for the compounds, this time Yokohama brought five specifications to be tested; the two specifications brought back from the Fuji and Suzuka tests, plus three newly improved versions of race tires Yokohama has specifically added to meet the requirements of the Autopolis test.

■The weather was favorable allowing us to run all the pre-scheduled test tires as well as including long runs in order to collect data on long evaluation distances close to the actual race.

■The next test planned to be held at Sugo Sportsland will be held during the rainy season in Japan, taking this into consideration, Yokohama will take the opportunity to prepare a wide range of WET tire options as well.
